Royal Marines and Royal Navy’s Fight against Knife Crime – Wythenshawe Black Belt Academy

The Royal Navy and Royal Marines have partnered with local authorities to launch a new initiative to help fight against knife crime, we are also hoping to offer young people an alternative to drugs, and gang culture, and to promote values like courage, self-discipline and respect for others, these values are very much in line with the Royal Navy core values and Royal Marines ethos.

We have further meetings planned with the unit for reduction of violence to partner and expand this campaign. The lord mayor, violence reduction unit, police, press and senior Naval Officers will attend.

We have a launch date of Sunday 3rd March in Greater Manchester. The next event will be at the Wythenshawe Black Belt Academy M22 5RW, starting at 1100. We have invited the Mayor, MP, Police, senior Naval Officers, and council to raise awareness of this initiative. They have confirmed attendance.

We would be grateful if you could consider this initiative and chat if possible, about hosting similar event under your banner. We will use combat sports gyms to remove barriers with communities.

The rough plan would be:

  • brief the class on the plan for the day.
  • introduce everyone then hand over to Royal Marine PTI.
  • PTI to deliver warm up, stretch and PT to appropriate level, Royal Marines to demonstrate exercise and ensure they are done correctly.
  • Royal Navy Muay Thai coaches take over for shadow boxing, drills, and pad work, (break class down).
  • Hand back to PTI for burn out PT to appropriate level.
  • Take group photos and hand out certificates.
