Manchester Young Lives gives a new lease of life to ‘The Addy’ as the first phase of redevelopment is completed.

Newly refurbished multi-use sports areas are bringing fresh energy to The Addy Young People’s Centre, with participation in sports activities increasing by over 40% since the work was completed. Replacing facilities that had fallen into significant disrepair, the new pitches mark the first phase of a wider redevelopment of the adventure playground and have been welcomed by the children and young people who use them.

Fundraising continues for the next chapter of the much-loved Addy adventure playground, which is reaching the end of its lifespan after 23 years of wear and tear. Launched in June 2025, the Stepping Stones Appeal has so far raised £240,000 towards the £650,000 target. Community fundraising, staff-sponsored runs, climbs, long-distance walks, Tough Mudder challenges and corporate sponsorship have all helped bring the new playground closer to reality. However, Manchester Young Lives still has a significant sum to raise to reach its target and ensure future generations of Wythenshawe children and young people have opportunities for free adventure play.

The redeveloped playground will:

  • Create a safe, fun, inclusive and inspiring space for children of all abilities
  • Support children’s health, wellbeing, confidence and social development
  • Maintain a trusted local hub where families can find support
  • Bring the community together and build long-term resilience
  • Protect a valued part of the area’s history for future generations
