Wythenshawe Library Creative Space is buzzing with excitement as the Captain’s Leg Theatre Group, a Wythenshawe project, has been nominated as a finalist for the prestigious Manchester Culture Awards 2025, in the best performance category.
Their play, Dark Beautiful and Chaste, written by local writer Marie Greenhalgh and produced by Becky Kershaw, was performed in Wythenshawe Library Creative Space in February this year; only the second play to be performed in this space. Captain’s Leg Theatre Group’s nomination is a testament to their impact on Wythenshawe cultural life. Their recent work, praised for its gripping originality and emotional depth, has resonated with both critics and audiences.
“I’m incredibly proud to represent Wythenshawe and to see our community’s creativity recognised on such a big stage. This nomination is proof that Wythenshawe is bursting with talent and cultural energy, and I hope our journey inspires others to believe in the power of local voices.”
Marie Greenhalgh (Writer and director).
