Heritage Trust North West Secures Funding Boost for Restoration of Medieval Baguley Hall.

Heritage Trust North West (HTNW) has secured a funding boost as it begins work to restore a medieval manor house in Wythenshawe.

The preservation trust took ownership of the Grade I listed Baguley Hall at the end of 2025, with an ambitious vision to bring the historic building back into active use.

Now, thanks to a £79,000 grant from the Architectural Heritage Fund, HTNW will appoint a specialist professional team to lead the next phase of the project.

Michael Guy, Chief Executive of HTNW, said: “We are delighted to receive this funding, which enables us to assemble a dedicated project team for this exciting restoration.

“It brings vital expertise to complement our in-house skills and allows us to begin developing proposals that will mark a new chapter for Baguley Hall.”

Matthew McKeague, Chief Executive of the Architectural Heritage Fund, said: “Baguley Hall is a unique and rare survivor with a rich and fascinating history. We are pleased to support Heritage Trust North West in bringing this important building back into use and creating a new purpose for the local community.”

In November, Historic England selected HTNW to take ownership of Baguley Hall. The trust has been saving and conserving historic buildings since 1978.

Dating back to the 13th century, the medieval manor house is one of Manchester’s oldest buildings. However, it has been boarded up for nearly 60 years and, in recent times, faced the threat of demolition.

HTNW is now developing proposals for the site and is keen to ensure the local community plays a central role in shaping its future.
