Wythenshawe’s Alisha Webster, 20, named football awards finalist

Wythenshawe sports journalist and photographer Alisha Webster has been named a finalist in this year’s North West Football Awards.

The University of Salford student, who has just turned 20, combines her studies with reporting, photography and playing in goal for Wythenshawe Vixens.

Alisha has been writing for women’s football blog Since 71 for around eight months. She covers Women’s Super League games, attends press conferences and has written about the Vixens. Receiving her press badge was a particularly proud milestone.

She also recently photographed Wythenshawe Amateurs’ match against Winton United, the team managed by Angry Ginge.

Her passion for football began with her dad, Craig Vincent Shennan, affectionately known as “Shez” or “Shezzy”. A well-known postman in Wythenshawe and devoted City supporter, he was also known as “Mr Manchester City”, travelling far and wide to support the club at every level.

Alisha attended her first City match at just two months old and has been a season ticket holder ever since. Together, they followed City home and away, sharing a love of football that helped shape her ambitions.

Sadly, Craig died from pancreatic cancer in May 2025. He supported Alisha’s growing interest in sports photography and would have been so proud of her awards recognition. His absence will be deeply felt on this special evening.

During the summer, Alisha took part in Race for Life in Manchester with her friend Venetia Rawlinson, a fellow University of Salford student. Together, they raised more than £1,000 for Cancer Research UK to help fund vital research into this devastating disease.

Despite such a difficult year, Alisha remains positive, outgoing and full of life. Modest about her achievements, she is determined to pursue her ambitions.

The North West Football Awards take place on Monday 2 November at The Manchester Deansgate Hotel.

We wish Alisha the very best of luck at the awards and look forward to following her career.
