Take on 100km in September to help St Ann’s build their new Heald Green hospice

The fundraising team at St Ann’s Hospice are challenging local residents to complete 100km throughout September to help them reach their £2 million target for a new Heald Green hospice. You can walk, run, swim, cycle or combine all four, in your own time and pace. There is no registration fee and every penny you raise will play a vital role in helping make a brand new hospice for the region a reality.

All the money raised will go towards the hospice’s Build It Together campaign, which is raising the final £2 million that the hospice needs to build a brand new hospice in Heald Green, replacing the current Victorian building which is in urgent need of replacement as it needs continual and costly repairs. This will see their current hospice in Heald Green replaced with a purpose-built facility costing over £21m in total with larger landscaped grounds and many improvements including 21 individual en-suite private bedrooms. The campaign which launched in June has already raised £350,000 and people and businesses across Greater Manchester are being urged to get involved.

Liv Blackshaw, from Stockport, is taking part in the challenge by walking the 100km to support St Ann’s in honour of her Mum, Donna McCann. She says her mum, aged 46, received the “best end of life care” at the hospice after she was diagnosed with cancer which affected her lungs, bones and brain.

Liv said: “I don’t know what we would have done if St Ann’s wasn’t around. I want to help make sure the families who need St Ann’s help in the future are able to do so.”

“I can never thank St Ann’s enough for how much they helped our family, they went above and beyond. This is my way of giving something back.”
