Culture is Back! From May 17, culture in Manchester is back and there is going to be so much to enjoy! Go to and you’ll find reopening museums, galleries and libraries, theatre performances and film, music and dance and a special section with events just for families. Whether you’re a regular attender or a first-time visitor there will be something for you among Manchester’s reopening programme, and this summer also sees a fantastic calendar of events in Manchester’s squares and open spaces. Check out the website and let culture set you free! Conductor standing in front of an orchestra, arm raised. How to Recycle Right We know not speaking English as a first language is often a barrier to recycling for people in our diverse communities. To help with this, we have created short, subtitled videos giving advice on what to do with household waste and recycling. These videos are in the 11 most widely spoken languages in Manchester, including English. You can see the videos on our website. If you know anyone who may benefit from viewing these, or anyone who can help people access the videos, please share the links. Great British Spring Clean – viva the revolution! Manchester is enjoying a litter picking revolution with thousands of residents helping clean up their areas, especially since the pandemic began. We now have litter picking groups in almost every ward of the city. Click here to find yours on this Google map, join the Facebook group and get involved! To celebrate the Great British Spring Clean, which starts on 28 May, we are asking residents to post their litter picking pictures and videos on social media using the hashtag #mcrSpringClean Let’s show the nation how much pride we take in our city. Find out more about the Great British Spring Clean, how to host a litter pick or join in one already organised by clicking here. Volunteer in a hi-vis jacket with a litter picking stick. Street Drinking – tell us what you think The Council is still running a consultation on street drinking in Manchester. We want to know where problem spots are and how this behaviour affects people’s lives. You can complete this consultation by following this link. Shout out for books – time-limited amnesty for overdue library books! As our libraries are open once again to the public, we are looking to get them back to their best. Since the beginning of the first lockdown we know that people’s ability to return loaned books has been limited. This is why we’ve extended our amnesty so residents will not get fined for any un-returned books until May 31. For more information visit Census – last chance to return yours Are you one of the 3% of UK households that have not completed the 2021 Census? The Office for National Statistics has extended the deadline for taking part online until Monday 24 May. After this you must request a paper form. It’s vital that you complete the census form for your household. If people refuse to take part, they could be taken to court and issued with a £1,000 fine and criminal record. If you have lost your letter or require assistance, you can head to for help.
