Exciting news coming your way is the summer of fun with the Summer Reading Challenge- become a Wild World Hero with crafting, drawing and of course LOADS of reading! The countdown has begun! This year’s fantastic Summer Reading Challenge launches on 5 July. Why not join us and become a Wild World Hero? This year’s theme is based on the environment and taking care of the world around us, but you can read any library book you like. We’re also busy planning some holiday activities – check out our website which will be full of Summer Reading Challenge news and announcements as we get closer to launch date! Read Manchester’s Look for a Book! Join us at Wythenshawe Park on Saturday 3rd July and get searching for hidden books! Have fun exploring the park and see if you can find one of our hidden bags containing a book token and some more goodies. The bags could be hidden in trees, under benches or in some long grass! Plus, don’t miss on our live storytelling sessions, led by our very own Angela from Manchester Libraries, at 11am and 1pm. Harry Potter Book Night- Thursday 24 June It is time for one of our favourite nights of the year! Join in the Harry Potter celebrations using some (or all!) of these activities. You can create a magical profile, test out your Harry Potter knowledge, design your own dragon or invent a magical potion! All of these activities (and more!) are available to download until 23 June. Young People’s Reading Group Thursday 17 June 7pm & Thursday 8 July 7pm Aged 13-18 years? Do you enjoy reading and want to share your favourite books with others? Or have you just got back into reading and don’t know where to start? Join us each month for a virtual meet up to discuss new titles, book reviews and recommendations at our friendly informal group. Armed Forces Day – A Big Thank You St. Peter’s Square, Saturday 26 June, 11am – 4pm Archives+ and Manchester Libraries will be joining the celebration in St Peter’s Square for our nation’s armed forces for a special day of activities and entertainment for the whole family. A ceremonial march past from the Lancashire Artillery Band and Scots Guards pipe band will begin the day at 11.30am. There will be military displays, including photographs and personnel recounting their involvement . These displays will cover various campaigns and focus on the diversity of Armed Forces personnel. Spanish Storytime at Manchester Central Library It’s time to say ‘hola’ to our fabulous Spanish storytime volunteer, Maria once again! Join Maria in our popular Storytime on Saturday 19 June 2pm – 3pm in Manchester Central Library. There will be a story and craft activity suitable for children aged 4-7.
